How can I restore files from Windows XP to Windows 7?

I’m trying to restore some files from my old Windows XP to Windows 7 through the NTBackup utility. But I got an error message “the backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used” during restoring process.

Is there any solution to restore Windows XP files to windows 7?

Unfortunately, NTBackup utility cannot help you restore files from Windows XP to Windows 7. According to the information released on the Internet NTBackup utility runs with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Also, whenever you want to restore a Windows file or other files, you need to use the same operating system.
