Snapchat appears and disappears.

On the page with my past conversations, sometimes (but not always) when I scroll all the way down to my last shown conversation, an unopened Snapchat will quickly appear and then disappear. Why does this happen?

This is not an issue as it happens with most of the chat applications. The "issue" is encountered whenever you're trying to scroll through the messages. This operation tells the system to get the new messages, even they're all read and because of that, you might see some messages to pop up as new and unread. Simply ignore them and scroll until you reach the desired message.
