It now shows up as WZUpdateNotifier. Guess too many people were killing it in the registry.
Don't forget to erase it or rename it in the Winzip programs folder also.

It holds my files hostage. I have bought on several occasions.
It is always wanting me to pay for a newer edition. It works fine for a bit and then you can't open anything unless you pay again.

I finally found WinZip Update Notifier in my Active Tasks list. I see no way to disable it. WinRAR.

You can disable the pop ups in the windows task manager, but they continue to come back. I agree, buy something else that does not install a virus and continuously attack your computer!

In addition to the steps given in other answers above,
go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler.
Scroll down to Active Tasks.
Look for WinZip Update Notifier. Disable it.

Pretty ridiculous that WinZip doesn't give you a user-friendly option to opt out of these intrusive ads. I'm uninstalling and switching to WinRar, which is a lot lighter on system resources too.

I have paid for winzip 21.5 and also get popup ads. Agree it is incredibly frustrating. Not sure if I will keep the program or uninstall it on principle.

I have a paid copy of WinZip Pro 22.0 and I still get pop-up ads. Not sure why, but it is extremely frustrating when I have paid for the product.
