Password recovery for Word on Mac computer.

Question

I created a few files on Word for Mac 2011 & Excel for Mac 2011 - with the same "password to open." But stupidly, I forgot to note down the password. Most solutions seem to be for PCs. Any suggestions to recover even the first 3 characters of the password in either Excel or Word file?

According to the official Microsoft forum, if you don't remember the password, there is nothing you can do in order to recover it. However, I suggest you use a Windows computer and install a recovery software in order to obtain your password. You can install any Windows-based application on a Mac computer using WineBottler, but it's possible to encouter compatibility issues.
