You need to download the application that is specific for the Google Earth version you're using. There is v6 and v5. Based on the installed version of Google Earth you also need to download the version of the application which corresponds to that version. The KMZ file needs to be from the same version as the application installed and then it will work. Don't use IMPORT as it does not have anything to do, use Open instead.
