Can't watch a media file without the TV being on at the same time. How do I get the TV off so I can watch the media file?

This shouldn't happen because the TV uses the stream from the card while the media file employs the Direct3D feature. These are two separate streams and shouldn't interfere one with each other. Try to configure the audio/video player to ignore a TV card.
