We are running Alchemy Search 7.6 build 225 and need to upgrade to a Windows 7 compatible version.

We are running Alchemy Search 7.6 build 225 and need to upgrade to a Windows 7 compatible version. We have about 12 users at the hospital. Can we just download a newer version or do we have to pay?

Alchemy Search is a client which works in conjunction with Alchemy Document Server. If the server isn't updated then the client can be used on another operating system but before you can do that, you will need to re-configure it. This operation can be performed by your IT administrator.
