If you have a huge library of files, the best is to leave iTunes alone while the synchronization takes place. Sometimes you may see that iTunes displays a message that it's busy. It can happen because of a number of files or that some files of yours are corrupted and it can't read them normally. Open your device and check where the synchronization stopped. Locate the track with problems and remove it from the library, then perform a new synchronization.
