I have no idea about what people are using for now to play Blu-ray on Mac since this is my first Mac experience.

You can try using VLC. It's a free alternative and has all the built-in codecs needed to play Blu-ray files/DVDs etc.

If the original poster wants to play commercial BlueRay DVD movies on the Mac there is NO direct option far as I know.
The reason for this is the very draconian hardwired copy protection schemes employed with BlueRay that Apple didn't go along with, in fact Steve Jobs called BlueRay "a bag of hurt".
But you can take advantage of 3rd party software like Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player, but you have to prepare Blu-ray drive by yourself. There are several available including models from Buffalo, Samsung, LG, ASUS and Sony.

VLC don't support commercial Blu-ray discs as it can't decode copy protection until now.'Mac Blu-Ray Player' will play straight off the disk. No ripping or remuxing required. Also it has a beta that supports menus. It's the only app I've seen that can do that on a Mac.
