The program doesn't start from the edited position.

We have CaptionMaker v.5.22 and if I stop the playback to make a change, it will not start playing again unless I cue to the beginning of the video.

This issue can be cause by the file name. Some file names don't allow you to play then when you modify them. Try to change the format of the video you're editing. Make sure to use something that's easy to edit and change. For example, an AVI file is commonly used among video editing. Additionally, this can be software limitation and you can't change the setting at all. So, for every change you will need to play the file from start.
