In order to fix the issue, go to Start, type dxdiag and open the utility. Click the Sound tab, check your audio card model and download and install the latest drivers available from the developer's page. After that, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound and select the Recording tab. Right-click anywhere in the provided window and select Show Disabled Device. Double-click the microphone device from the Recording tab and select Enable from Device usage. Also, click again the microphone icon and press the Set Default button next to the Properties option. After that, you can record yourself using any utility from Software Informer database. Personally, I recommend you try Free Sound Recorder, Power Sound Editor Free, or Sonarca Sound Recorder Free because these tools are free of charge and easy to use.
