WD - My Book Essential is an external drive developed by Western Digital Technologies. In order to fix the issue, I suggest you download and install the latest Mac drivers from the official web page. If it doesn't help, try to format the drive using WD Quick Formatter. If you still have issues, I suggest you visit a local service center or to contact the developer.
