You need to go through the Voice Setup menu from Yahoo Messenger > Preferences > Video & Voice. Click on the Open video and voice and make sure that the MIC and headphones are configured properly then you can enter a chat room. If you still encounter issues, try using the sound manager associated with your sound card. You can access Sound Manager application from Control Panel or from the system tray in Windows.
