In order to watch a movie from external hard drive on TV, you should make sure that your hard-disk is formatted in FAT32 and that your TV allows you to play multimedia files. If these conditions are fulfilled, you just connect the two devices with the help of an USB cable(if supported). Another solution is to set the TV as the main display for your computer. Turn on your TV and turn off the computer, connect the TV with your system. From Control Panel, Appearance and Themes and Display, select the TV as your primary monitor. Now, the movies played from your external hard-drive through the laptop, should be displayed on your TV.
