Your problems may be caused by your Internet connection not being configured properly, or your firewall is blocking this software. Make sure you are not using any proxies that are slowing down your Internet connection or that your firewall hasn't blocked BuddyCheck, in that case you could add it as an exception since this software is not known for being a danger to your system.
Other than that you could check if there is any new version of it available, maybe you can't connect to the server because an update took place that changed the server's address the software used to work with.
