Windows Media Player strongly depends on Internet Explorer for all its Internet connection. If you cannot open a webpage, go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN. Make sure that there is no proxy set up or you will encounter errors in case the specified PROXY is not working.
