I have lost the serial and product number for my HP laptop. Any ideas how to recover it?

Hi Stephen, when i say ive lost my serial number i mean that when i turn on my laptop it says "no serial number" then says my windows is not genuine.I have been told i need a dmi? tool to write it. Seems to be a problem with hp compaq laptops. Thanks very much for trying to help. Mike
