I can't unlock ZTE Merit because of too many pattern attempts.

If you enter too many pattern attempts, then the phone will get locked. In this case, a menu will appear asking you to enter a PIN. You can obtain that PIN using the Send Email option. Then access the email which was attached to the phone and locate your PIN. Enter the received PIN and unlock your phone. Contrary, if the phone does not have a working Internet or Data Connection, then you will need to perform a factory reset operation by entering Recovery Mode and press Volume UP + Power Button for a few seconds. Use MENU as your OK button and Volume buttons as navigation. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset and reboot the phone. The content from the phone will be deleted but your storage device will be intact (in case you have one attached).
