Is my iPhone 6+ able to get text?

It makes/answers calls. Does not alert when text msg comes in.

If you don't receive SMS messages, then I recommend checking the setting for SMS messages. This needs to be done through the Phone menu.

Open phone and type: **5005*7672*SMSCNUMBER# where SMSCNUMBER is the SMS center number in international format. Press Call and this message should appear "Setting succeeded, Service Centre Address, No Address".
