This is rather unusual for Virtual CloneDrive to crash, since it supports all major Windows versions as posted on the official website: 2000, XP, XP 64bit, Vista , Vista 64bit, Windows 7, Windows 7 64bit, Windows 8, Windows 8 64bit.
For Windows XP and below it should install normally. For Windows Vista and above, you need to trigger the Run as Administrator option since the software will install a driver and needs access to system resources. This can be easily fixed using right click on file then Run as Administrator. Additionally, when the driver installation window appears, select Install and it should work.
Platforms tested: Windows 7 (32 and 64bit), Windows 8 (32 and 64bit), Windows 8.1 (32 and 64bit).
