Why should it prepare before uploading anything? Why can't it just start uploading?

Each time I want to upload large amounts of data with Cyberduck, instead of starting to upload right away, it spends some time 'preparing'. Sometimes something goes wrong while 'preparing' and an empty directory structure is left on the device I am uploading to. Not very useful. Uploading can always fail at any moment (e.g. if there is a problem with the connection), so why not start uploading right away instead of spending so much time 'preparing'?

Most likely, the software is creating a list with the files that are going to be transferred. It's a common technique for such applications to make the upload easier or to benefit from the resume procedure in case something bad happens. Unfortunately, it's impossible to change this, unless is defined in the Settings menu. The option should be called something like "Pre-load or Pre-allocate" files.

Additionally, you can use another FTP client to transfer the files. In this case, FlashFXP is an alternative.
