When you open the software, it performs update checks for newer versions of the program data. The error you are having is because there is something wrong with your Internet connection or the firewall which in this case blocks the communication between your software and the update servers. I think you should turn off your firewall to test if the error persists. Type the following command into a command prompt (you can start it from Start > Run> Cmd > Press Enter): netsh firewall set opmode disable and then try to start the software again. If this is the cause of this error then it should be gone by now.
Another reason is that the servers which software is trying to connect are unconnectable or have maintenance problems which in this case you should try and start the application a bit later.
