My phone is stuck in system recovery mode but buttons on the screen don't work. I have a Samsung Galaxy S phone.

In Recovery mode, the touch driver is not loaded so you will have to use the volume buttons (up and down for selection) and menu button for OK (confirm). If the phone is stuck in the recovery menu, then from that location you can also perform a factory reset which will remove all the applications, settings or any other 3rd party content from your phone storage. You do not need to worry regarding your SD card content because the factory reset script will not delete anything.
The factory reset operation will allow you to get control of your phone. Once the process completes, you may need to configure it from 0.
