I can't paginate the pages in InDesign Ver 8.0.1.

I’m unable to paginate my pages, before, I saved them as a PDF to send to my printer. Does this file have to be re-built from the beginning? Thank you for your help.

You can't re-paginate after you've saved the content as PDF. Yes, you will have to re-build the file from the beginning and then paginate the pages using the built-in features. Even if you use a compatible PDF editor, pagination wouldn't be available.
