UPEK Protector Suite - can't find the fingerprint device.

I recently loaded Windows 7 Pro on my Toshiba Tecra M5, equipped with a fingerprint reader. I downloaded the appropriate update drivers from the Toshiba website, but can't get the software to find the reader. I've gone through all the diagnostics and 'usual' remedies to no availability. The biometric log-on is one of the best features of the Tecra and I really want to get it working. Any suggestions?

This seems to be a problem with the driver itself. You've probably downloaded a version that's not compatible with your operating system or the driver hasn't been installed properly in Device Manager. I recommend downloading a new version of the driver from its official website, then check for manual installation in Device Manager and it should work.
