Unfortunately, the security question is the only barrier that prevents you from accessing your account. This is the last resort used by Yahoo to allow users to recover their accounts. If you don't know the answer to your security question, then the account will be lost forever. From time to time, Yahoo deletes inactive usernames. This has happened a couple of times.
