A DOC file was converted to XML and it can't be opened.

I saved my document in MS Word with a DOC file extension. I can't open it anymore because it suddenly was converted to XML and it's not readable. How can I fix this?

Even if your file's extension was changed to XML, you should be able to open it using MS Office Word utility. To do this, right click on the file > Open With > Microsoft Office Word or if you can't find the program click Choose default program > Select a program from a list of installed programs > Other programs > Microsoft Office Word. This should open the file and let you save it as a DOC.
