Need a tool to repair bad partitions.

Will PartitionMagic repair bad partition? My Book Drive mounts but the driver is not initialized and it doesn't allow me to access files. I'm thinking that partition table needs recovery and the partition is corrupted. Is this the reason why it is showing as Unknown?

No. This is a partitioning tool. This is the reason why you won't be able to use it to repair a damaged partition. However, I suggest you use a program like Partition Wizard to determine how bad is damaged your partition. If the partition comes up Bad after scanning, there are a few things that you can do to recover it.
