When you have sound problems, the first thing to do is to check the driver and the software. Go to Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc) and then make sure that everything is installed properly. As a suggestion, right click the sound device and choose Disable, then go to the Sound Settings in the System Tray and make sure that everything is set up in terms of sound connections, mute settings, etc.
