You actually need an Internet connection to use the Gmail recovery feature. There is another way but you will wipe all the phone's apps and custom settings. Turn it off then press Volume Down + Power button until the factory mode comes up then release the buttons. Select Clear eMMC and wait to complete. Reboot the phone and you will gain access to its desktop. You might need to reconfigure it again with the Google account, apps installation, etc.
