I have installed Google Desktop on my PC, it runs on Windows 7 and I can't search for Word/Excel files that were saved before installing Google Desktop. Can you help me?

It probably has to do with the fact that those files have not been indexed. To do this, simply go to your system tray, right click on the Google Desktop icon and choose "Indexing".
