You can uninstall the media player and install the latest version from VideoLAN Organization web site. Also you need to go at Tools tab > Preferences > Interface Settings > Operating System Integration and to open the list Set up associations. Check only the boxes next to every file type you wish to associate with VLC and un-check the others. Click on Apply and on Save button at the bottom of your Preferences window.
