my dell came with windows vista. Later I installed windows 7. Now I have a long delay while windows 7 starts and dell says I must reinstall vista using the disk that came with the computer. How do I do that without loosing my files?

First install one of the backup tool available on the page : http://software.informer.com/search/backup . Once you installed then take a backup of your necessary files to a different device (USB/CD/DVD/Network Drive). Double check on the target device for the files backed up properly. Once you re-install your VISTA, you can not get the files back from you laptop. Now you are ready to go with your re-installation of VISTA.
