When I download and add subtitles to movies they appear as strange symbols, the subs work in other computers with DivX or VLC Media Players. What should I do?

When I download and add subtitles to movies they appear as strange symbols, the subs work in other computers with DivX or VLC Media Players. What should I do?

This happens because the DivX is not configured properly. You need to configure the settings to use the right ISO mode for subtitles. To read more about this, visit the Wikipedia page related to character encoding.
