It was installed in my computer and I assumed that it was a freebie, but now after a few uses, it wants me to pay for an upgrade. Is that right? Is there no freeware that can be installed with this program?

I believe not. The application comes in 2 versions but there isn't a free one. If you plan to use it anymore you need to buy the product from its developer page. Many applications are bundled with desktops and laptops, but at some point these expire and the only way to use them is to purchase an activation key or a license.
