It's not a general rule. Some guns have been created with lefty support for those people who use left hand as their primary hand to operate things. However, in game it doesn't really matter and it's all just a matter of choice. Bring up the console and type cl_righthand 0/1; 0 disables the right hand usage and 1 enables it.
