How do I eliminate intersecting lines when I overlap shapes?

I'm new to Corel Draw X5 and I can't seem to figure out how to remove the intersecting lines when I overlap shapes. I know it must be a simple procedure but can't seem to figure it out. I've tried both the cut tool and the eraser tool.

Please use Virtual Segment Tool to remove the unnecessary lines. You can find in in the CUT menu.
