Have a HP3180 & colour cartridges empty. Each time I start printer it does a test page using lots of ink. By using a new colour cartridge would this fix the problem even though I don't need colour?

Have a HP3180 & color cartridges empty. Each time I start printer it does a test page using large amount of ink. By using a new color cartridge would this fix the problem even though I don't need color?

You can set the printer to print only in black and white. You can do this from the printer's configuration page. After you set the option using this way the printer will stop checking for ink level in color cartridges, but yes you can replace it and the issues will go away.
