Your computer is more than capable of running the latest Windows 8 operating system. If you plan to use Windows, then Windows 8 is a good start, but regarding performance and graphic or gaming capabilities, I recommend on using Windows 7. Ubuntu is good too but since't it's a Linux system based OS, latest games and application are not usually available.
