How can I increase my pickup signal?

There is only one WiFi that is unlocked around me and for some reason my Realtek 11n USB wireless LAN adapter can only pick it up for a couple of seconds and then it's gone unlike with my iPod, is there a way to make my assigned signal strength stronger?

There aren't official tricks or ways to improve the signal strength except to approach the source signal. Your iPod is designed better when it comes to signal managing and the Realtek is configured to disconnect when the signal is too low.
