First you need to check the Sound section from the Settings menu. Make sure that all sliders are dragged all the way to the right. There are no other settings but if the problem persists, it might be required that you perform a Factory Reset to bring the phone to its default state. You can do this by pressing Volume Down + Menu button + power button. Once you're in the recovery menu, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset and that's it. Let the phone boot normally and go to Sound again and test the ringtones and alarm volumes.

Factory reset, still only popping sound, I'm root and wondering what all goes into making the sound work. I lost sound after a reset before I rooted.

Make sure you didn't put a screen protector over top of the little speaker. It looks like a little (1/6 in ch wide), gray horizontal slot, just above where the Kyocera label is.. I found this page, when all I had to do, was physically look at the speaker itself on my phone. I had just put on a screen protector and didn't realize i forgot to cut the speaker portion of it out before installing. Extremely silly fix BUT indeed a fix, if there's some physical ANYTHING blocking the speaker slot.
