Java update and invalid certificate of authenticity

I receive the prompt to update Java but when I check, I find the cert is expired as of July 2012. Do they care and is this still a valid update? I got no help from Sun Microsystems.

These certificates are not updated every day. Some certificates are valid for 1, 2, 5, or even 10 years. You can update your Java runtime without worries.
