The standard cursor if larger than normal points to the upper left and when you click on anything that then lists what the cursor is over, the bottom of the cursor blocks the first part of the explanation.
To change the pointer direction from upper left to upper right, you can go to System Preferences > Mouse and then adjust the pointer direction setting.
