My laptop asks me if I use it in an office environment, for business use or home use. I keep typing home use but I am always a part of workgroups.

Workgroups are created just so computers could communicate easily using the file and sharing features. Workgroups are created for the better usability of network communication and it shouldn't affect the good functionality of your laptop, however, you can use your laptop at home no matter the option you choose when you are asked because nothing will change related to its own functionality because workgroups are strictly related to network operations only.
