Yes, you can use the Intel Hex files from any other IDE, because the program supports it. I've installed this simulator and used the File > Load Program function found in main menu-bar. The only file available for loading is the Intel Hex in HEX format.
As always, make sure to download the latest version of PIC18 Simulator IDE application to avoid any compatibility problems.
