Some files from the Microsoft Works are available for import into the newer versions of Home Office. The simplest thing to do is to actually import the files that you have into the corresponding Office product.
I've studied various websites and documents and it appears this is the only way. You have to identify the format of your files and then choose the corresponding Office product to open them. Typically, they should work out of the box or it should give you an error about the "unknown file format" that you are trying to open.
