A wireless signal can be extended to a far distance using additional router with repeater's capabilities. This means that you will need to place a router which is able to see the original network, and then it should be configured as a repeater instead of an Access Point. This option is easily configurable using the configuration interface of the 2nd router which acts as a repeater. You will need to manually configure it in order the first router could recognize it and allow Internet access.
