To disable Message Plus, simply tap on the default Messages application and it will tell you that it isn't set up as the default application for message sending. Simply tap on the OK button and that's it. The application should be set as default. Go through the Settings to configure additional items such as gateway, encoding, themes, etc.
I recommend using the Google's own Messages app which does a very good job against the default application.
