When you plug the portable drive, it should be detected by Windows and a drive will appear in the Computer or This PC. Right click that driver and select Explore. It's possible that when you double click it to actually start the installation of the support software since autorun might be enabled for. Right click it and then select all the software and delete it. You can work with the driver without the software.
In case it doesn't detect your drive, keep it connected to PC then go to Start > Run > devmgmt.msc and locate the yellow entry in the list. Right click it and choose Update Driver but use Windows Update.
