The communication protocol is directly related and managed by the drivers. You need to check if the drivers are correctly installed for this application. To do this, go to Start > Run > devmgmtm.msc. Look through the list for yellow marked items. If you have any, install their drivers and then start the software again.
Secondly, check the Windows Firewall in System and Security: disable it or add the software to the exclusions list.
